What to Expect for Your First Stay on North Captiva Island
Planning your first trip to North Captiva Island? You’re in for something truly special. Unlike most Florida vacation destinations, North Captiva is a peaceful, car-free island that truly feels like paradise. But with its unique charm comes a few details you’ll want to know before you arrive. Here’s what to expect for your first visit and some frequently asked questions we get from guests:
Getting There by Ferry
North Captiva Island is only accessible by boat or small plane, and for most guests, that means taking a ferry from Pine Island. There is parking there. We recommend booking your spot on the Island Girl Charters ferry, which offers a comfortable and scenic ride straight to the island. Be sure to reserve in advance, especially during busy seasons!
Arriving at the Dock
Once you arrive, your vacation begins. Vanage Vacation Homes will have a golf cart waiting for you at the dock which will be your primary mode of transportation during your stay. It’s all part of the Vanage experience: seamless service from arrival to departure, so you can focus on what matters most, relaxing.
Food on the Island
There are no large grocery stores on North Captiva, so we encourage guests to plan ahead for meals and snacks. There is a small store on the island that sells essentials, but it is not a full market. We do partner with a responsive and highly recommended grocer who can assist in a pinch for an item that is needed. As for food and groceries, you have a few options:
Use a grocery delivery service: Many guests choose to work with local services that will either deliver groceries to the dock or go the extra mile and stock your vacation home before your arrival. This provides a stress-free option as they pack the items to beat the heat. We recommend Fresh Pick Grocery Services.
Bring your own: If you prefer to shop yourself, grab your groceries on the mainland before boarding the ferry. Most homes have full kitchens and plenty of fridge/freezer space. Be sure to package items with ice packs as they may be sitting in the heat.
There are 3 restaurants on the island; Over the Waterfront, Mainstay, and Mangos Pool Bar. They each offer take out options and ice cream as well. Visit their websites or Facebook page for their menus.
For a fun touch to your trip, you may also rent a private chef to cook a meal or two from the comfort of your own rental home. We would recommend Coastal Eats!
Beach Days
One of the true highlights of North Captiva Island is the beach and trust us, it’s unlike any other. With miles of quiet, untouched shoreline, you’ll often feel like you have the entire coast to yourself. Some mornings, we walk the beach and don’t pass another soul. It’s the kind of peaceful beauty that’s hard to find these days. To make your beach days effortless, Vanage Vacation Homes equips each property with beach-ready essentials like chairs, umbrellas, towels, and more. It’s everything you need for a relaxing day in the sand, without the hassle of packing it all.
Whether you're looking to disconnect, reconnect, or simply slow down, North Captiva Island offers a truly one-of-a-kind escape and Vanage Vacation Homes is here to make every part of your stay seamless, comfortable, and unforgettable.
